A friend of mine sent me something she wrote in her devotional time. I thought it was worth passing forward!
In the book of Isaiah we get a glimpse of Heaven as the Seraphs were calling to one another in Isaiah 6:3 “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty. The whole earth is full of His Glory”. As I thought on that, I wondered why would it be so great to spend time worshiping God when we get to Heaven? We think of worship as what we do in church – it’s contained – it’s too loud or off key or we’re too hot or too cold or we are restrained by our human hung ups – but it came to me that Heaven’s worship is not like that. Think of a rock star you always wanted to meet or an actress or high political figure or sport’s star, and if you saw someone like that for just an instant, you would remember it the rest of your life….”such and such was in the airport and I saw him.” Take that, and multiply it a thousand fold. Take that moment when you were overwhelmed by a thought, where you were enlightened into the truth and just felt God talked to YOU or spoke directly to YOU and your heart burned within you. Take that and multiply that by a thousand fold. Take the feeling when you most felt loved and cared for and special and beautiful – maybe it was your wedding day – or someone you really admired took the time to talk to you and they just made your heart sing. Take that and multiply it a thousand fold. Take the time when you gathered around a bountiful table with people that you most loved, and every food that delighted you, and as you ate the food, it burst forth flavor and you savored it AND those around you. Take that and multiply it a thousand fold. Take a time when you were really in your element at work – when all of the pieces were moving together in perfect harmony and you felt you were right in the place where God wanted you and was using you..and you felt fulfilled and thriving and ALIVE. Take that and increase it a thousand fold. Take a time when you were listening to a great orchestra hitting the climax moment of a moving song or when you were singing at the top of your voice with arms uplifted to an artist on the radio and you were so moved by the music that you thought you would burst. Take that, and multiply it a thousand fold. Or take an amazing sunset that had so much color streaking across the sky that your eyes couldn’t take it all in, or after a freezing rain where icicles clinging to trees are like crystal as the sun’s rays glisten off of every single branch and twig…or right after a rain, when the sun comes out and everything is sparkling and fresh and shimmering and the moisture is rising from the earth in a wondrous haze – take all of these and multiply them a thousand fold. Or take that first warm spring day where you could feel the sun’s warmth on your face and you smelled the richness of the soil and the aroma of the spring trees bursting with their sweet fragrance and you heard the symphony of birds filling the air – take that and increase it a thousand fold. Or take the excitement, the passion and energy at a sporting event when your team just scored the winning touchdown or field goal or home run and everyone around you is cheering and high fiving and hugging and rejoicing and screaming – take that and increase it a thousand fold. Take all of those combined and more than we can even think or imagine and multiply it a thousand fold and we have just a glimpse, just a glimmer, just a touch of the worship and Presence of the Holy One of God in Heaven!
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4
“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory” Isaiah 6:3
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians. 4:16-19.
All the above are moments of God tapping me on the shoulder and showing me the deepest truths of my existence. I need to be attentive to these movements of God’s spirit within me! They are just glimpses today, but in Heaven, will be my reality!
